No. 25 — Jio Orozco, RHP
Acquired: 14th Round, 2015 Draft — Salpointe Catholic (Ariz.)
Bats/Throws Ht./Wt. DOB 2015 Level
R/R 6-1/210 8.15.97 R

Orozco passed up the University of Arizona to sign with the Mariners despite being selected in round 14. In high school Orozco showed a fastball mostly 90-94 mph, mixing in an overhand curveball and good changeup.

Last summer, Orozco lit 95 quite a bit in short stints, and his curveball was inconsistent but sharper than ever in flashes. He has very good arm speed and there’s effort in the delivery suggesting a bullpen role is almost certainly in his future, both distant and immediate.

At 6-foot-1 and 210 pounds, Orozco’s sturdy frame should hold up well going high-effort out of the bullpen. If they slow him down and use him in the rotation, his athleticism will work in his favor, though there’s not much physical projection on which to lean.
