One of the biggest bright spots in the Seattle Mariners system through the first month of the season has been outfielder Jonatan Clase. He started the season in Everett with the AquaSox after a good showing in Modesto last year where he slashed .267/.374/.463 with 13 home runs and 55 stolen bases. So far this year he is off to a scorching hot start and was just promoted to Double-A Arkansas.
Clase is hitting .333/.453/.701 with 7 home runs and 17 stolen bases in just over 100 plate appearances. His performance earned himself the honor of Northwest League Player of the Month along with his promotion. He is hitting for much more power this season, so we will have to see if it continues in Double-A. Clase will turn 21 later this month and being sent to Arkansas is a big vote of confidence from the Mariners front office.

Mariners Draft Spotlight
After focusing on prep infielders in the last few Mariners Draft Spotlights, let’s take a look at a college pitcher from Texas, Tanner Witt. Witt stands at a tall 6-foot-5 and has an athletic frame. The soon-to-be 21-year-old has not actually pitched a ton in college. He has less than 70 career innings and has only two real starts after being a reliever his freshman year and then missing most of the 2022 and 2023 seasons due to Tommy John surgery.
He is just now making his way back onto the mound, and despite his rocky return, Joe Doyle from Future Stars Series is extremely high on Witt’s potential once he gets drafted. Doyle said, “Witt is as good a bet as anyone to see a massive jump in stuff and production in pro ball.” If the Mariners believe they can turn Witt into a power starting pitcher in their player development system, he could be the latest college pitcher drafted by Seattle.
Mariners Prospects in the News
Seattle Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto spoke to Seattle Sports on 710am about what makes Bryce Miller special.
Top pitching prospect Bryce Miller had a fantastic debut against Oakland earlier this week.
Check out which prep infielder MLB Pipeline mocked to Seattle at pick 22 in their most recent MLB Mock Draft.
