RANKINGS: Latest Top 40 Prospects Update | MLB: UPDATED 2020 Draft Order

Here’s how the Mariners’ farm system performed Sunday:

Tacoma Rainiers (AAA)– Pacific Coast League

No. 5 Justus Sheffield, LHS
SUN: DNP
2019: 54.1 IP, 52 H, 27 ER, 40 BB, 46 SO, 5.74 ERA

6.7.2019: Hot and cold for Sheffield, and far too much cold. At this point, I wonder if Sheffield doesn’t get skipped in the rotation once or twice if they’re working on some mechanical adjustments, because he’s just not finding a consistent release point. The stuff is fine. He’s missing bats. The changeup isn’t being used a lot but he’s not getting into a lot of changeup counts, either.

UR Robert Perez, 1B

2019: .298/.353/.532, 3-2B, 3B, 2 HR, 3 BB, 15 SO

MLB Dee Gordon, 2B (rehab)
SUN: 1-5, SO

Gordon is 3-for-14 on rehab and played second base Saturday and Sunday after DH’ing Friday night.

Dylan Moore likely is optioned back to Tacoma when Gordon is ready, unless the Mariners have a trade in the works. But they never make trades, so …

Arkansas Travelers (AA) — Texas League

No. 3 Justin Dunn, RHS
SUN: DNP
2019: 54 IP, 53 H, 21 ER, 15 BB, 67 SO, 3.50 ERA

ANALYSIS:  Dealing Narváez Benefits Promising Pitchers

No. 7 Kyle Lewis, OF
SUN: 2-5, 2B, RBI, SO
2019: .255/.347/.385, 11-2B, 2-3B, 4 HR, 37 RBI, 30 BB, 65 SO, 2 SB

Lewis is finding the barrel a lot more the last 10 days with 18 hits in his last 42 at-bats with three doubles, a triple and a home run. Despite uninspiring numbers, he’s above-average in the Texas League with a 104 wRC+ and .338 wOBA.

No. 11 Jake Fraley, OF
SUN: 2-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI, BB
2019: .333/.402/.576, 14-2B, 2-3B, 11 HR, 45 RBI, 19 BB, 45 SO, 14 SB

Fraley played Sunday for the first time since Game 1 Friday night and he does this? He does not belong in Double-A anymore. No matter which way you split Fraley’s season — smaller samples, cherry-picking, month-by-month, he’s hit.

His lone black mark is left-handed pitching, but he’s only had 40 PAs against southpaws. In Triple-A, they’ll go to the pen every time after the 5th inning to get the lefty.

Fraley now is No. 3 in the TL in homers, No. 4 in RBI, No. 1 in batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Oh, and also No. 1 in wRC+. So it’s not just traditional numbers. It’s time to challenge him beyond Arkansas.

No. 14 Evan White, 1B
SUN: 3-5, HR, BB, SO
2019: .286/.362/.442, 4-2B, 3B, 6 HR, 15 RBI, 17 BB, 37 SO, SB

White has 20 hits in his last 50 at-bats and he’s starting to get to his power a little bit of late, including homers Friday, Saturday and Sunday, a double Tuesday and a homer last Sunday.

No. 20 Ricardo Sanchez, LHS
SUN: DNP
2019: 67 IP, 69 H, 26 ER, 17 BB, 63 SO, 3.49 ERA

No. 21 Dom Thompson-Williams, OF
SUN: 3-5, 2-2B
2019: .247/.330/.447, 11-2B, 3-3B, 7 HR, 23 RBI, 21 BB, 52 SO, 10 SB

No. 35 Wyatt Mills, RHR
SUN:
DNP
2019:
25 IP, 28 H, 13 ER, 11 BB, 25 SO, 2 SVS

2019: 11 GS, 2.88 ERA, 65.2 IP, 64 H, 5 BB, 56 SO

No. 39 Sam Delaplane, RHR
SUN: DNP
2019: 22 G, 33.2 IP, 22 H, 15 BB, 67 SO, 2 SVS

Modesto Nuts (A+) — California League

No. 1 — Jarred Kelenic, OF
SUN: DNP
2019: .316/.398/.595, 15-2B, 3-3B, 13 HR, 34 RBI, 27 BB, 50 SO, 10 SB

Kelenic missed his third game in a row with a wrist injury but remains ‘active’ through game action Sunday.

No. 2 Logan Gilbert, RHS
SUN: DNP
2019: 53.2 IP, 37 H, 12 ER, 12 BB, 76 SO, 2.01 ERA

No. 12 Cal Raleigh, C

No. 16 Ljay Newsome, RHS
SUN: DNP
2019: 13 GS, 72 IP, 75 H, 28 ER, 9 BB, 94 SO, 3.50 ERA

No. 28 Joey Gerber, RHP
SUN: DNP
2019: 19 G, 21 IP, 15 H, 8 ER, 8 BB, 32 SO

No. 38 Luis Liberato, CF
SUN: DNP (IL)
2019: .288/.363/.444, 5-2B, 7 HR, 29 RBI, 20 BB, 41 SO, 4 SB

West Virginia Power (A) — South Atlantic League

No. 4 — Julio Rodriguez, OF

2019: .355/.429/.452, 3-2B, 3 RBI, 4 BB, 5 SO

No. 25 Damon Casetta-Stubbs, RHS
SUN: DNP

SUN: DNP
2019: 12 GS, 57 IP, 48 H, 28 ER, 23 BB, 69 SO, 4.42 ERA

No. 40 Jake Anchia, C
SUN: 1-3, SO
2019: .238/.304/.435, 5-2B, 8 HR, 10 BB, 56 SO

DSL Mariners (R)

No. 8 Noelvi Marte, SS
SUN: DNP
2019: .375/.385/.625, 2B, 3B, HR, 5 RBI, BB, 5 SO, 2 SB

Marte has a hit in all six games so far in 2019 and while hitting streaks in and of themselves aren’t a sign of much, there is something to be said for consistently putting forth good plate appearances, and hitting streaks can often be a sign of that.

Marte will not be 18 until October, so like with Julio Rodriguez last year, Marte is on pace to hit the states for full-season ball in 2020.

UR Arturo Guerrero, CF
SUN: DNP
2019: .333/.429/.389. 2B, BB, 6 S), 3 SB

Guerrero is a 6-3, 170-pound outfielder with athleticism, 65 speed and an average arm.
