When the season began, most prognosticators, pro, amateur and wannabe alike, tossed out a number between 70 and 78. A few pessimistically projected less than 70 and fewer spun it for 80 or more.

So the month leading up to the 2009 trade deadline was supposed to be covered in easy decisions – trade them, trade them all.

But right now the Seattle Mariners have 35 wins, paced for at least 80 on the season, and in a bad division such as the American League West, sit just 2.5 games behind the leaders and, when healthy, boast the division’s best pitching staff.

I absolutely DESPISE Lewis. Despite the tools he may have, he ALWAYS looks lost.

Interesting scenario. I wouldn't be upset by those deals, but is Lewis's offense enough? Maybe it is. Have him in the 2 hole and it might not drop off that much. But I just don't see this team hitting enough to be competitive. But I would like all the young talent acquired.

You aren't getting stars in return, but I've seen enough of him in person and on TV to know he isn't worthless.

I actually don't mind the rest of the pieces in the deal(s) Jason, so I would not be opposed to them pulling the trigger on them...even if I do have to watch Lewis sleep through a few seasons.

I keep seeing the mention of a rumor. I'm at work and can't take a lot of time to run down the story. Can someone briefly fill me in?
