Jason, I know you just did a top 30 mid-season report, but where would you rate Beagan, Lueke, and Lawson in the M's top 30 prospects? I discounting Smoak since he (like Saunders) is already with the big league club.

Darn good question, linny6, and one in my head, too. Five will get you ten that Jason's gonna touch on that in the podcast to some degree.

If you don't mind my openly hazarding a guess, I think Beavan would rank #9, Lueke #16 and Lawson #29.

What do you make of both Mike Wilson and Greg Halman this year? I'm especially interested in your guys take in Wilson...he's walking more, striking out less, and still hitting for huge power with an OBP near .400 in AAA for about 200 PAs. I know he's not on the 40 man but for a team that has such a struggle to score runs should the M's call him up in September as see what the got? Maybe we have another Nelson Cruz on our hands as far as late developments. Just my two cents.

Can you guys speculate a bit on the roster heading into the second half and your predictions for roster spots for next year? what do you guys think the FO vision is for SS? and do you guys see Franklin as a long term option or will they try to get a higher upside guy? Is it me or in 2 years is this team going to have nasty depth in starting pitching? I know their draft picks but Walker, Stanek, Paxton,Shipers (if he signs) to go along with Pineda and not to mention a few more years of Felix looks like a scary pool. And don't forget about the top 5 pick in next years draft, would love to know more about some of those potential picks

Jackson, how would Jason know what Chuck Armstrong will do with Lueke? I hope this isn't another attempt to make this a bigger issue than it is.

IMHO, I doubt that they'd do anything, at this point. He's not the model citizen, but what he did happened on Texas' watch. He served his time. I do expect that he'll be told he's on a short leash.

It's not like the girl he had sex with was some innocent girl who was pulled into an alley.

I'm not excusing the guy, what he did was selfish and immoral to a certain degree. But, at the same time, it's not like he got away with it, either.

What exactly do you think we're trading and getting back??

Felix, Ichiro, and Guti are pretty much all we have of value. Those guys aren't going anywhere.

You guys are fooling yourselves if you think anything impactful is coming back for Branyan, Aardsma, League, or Lopez..

I think alot of the excitement for trades is we won't have the same old players run out there everyday. We are already playing for next year. We might as well trade off the "dead weight" and play more of the kids. Can we really do any worse? I do think Branyan could bring back a better piece than what we traded for him. Teams chasing the playoffs are always seeking power/power off the bench. Branyan has some value and I wouldn't think Jack Z can't pull off some more magic. Jack Z played the Cliff Lee trade perfectly and I think his short track record with the M's makes me believe he should win every trade.

The podcast had an interesting 3 way trade rumor. That was an hour well spent. I would recommend listening to it if you have not.

I've been keeping my eye on J. Jones down at Clinton. Seems like he has been progressing of late. He's getting extra base hits, not striking out as often and taking more BBs. Do you see him skipping High Desert? Maybe WT in 2011?

JohnMcD: They did talk about that 3 way rumor. If I had to guess it was in the 52nd minute. I would fill you in on what they said but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to do that in the comments section. The rumor was pretty interesting to me.

Agree with Blowgun7 about trading certain guys at this point. It really doesn't make a lot of sense. With Aardsma and Lopez, you would be selling low. Not sure why League needs to go.

You don't have to be an insider to listen to the pod cast so I see no reason not to mention names. With that said I hope it happens because I have Haren in fantasy and he needs to get the hell out of Arizona. If he goes to LA his value goes way up, he finally will get some damn wins and more complete games

What type of hitter do you see Smoak as in the future? Number three type?

@24 - I'm not sure what Jason sees, but a lot depends on if you think your 3 or 4 hitter should be your 'best' hitter. A lot depends on who else is on your team, but he should be a middle of the order type of bat, 3/4, maybe #2 but you would need some big time power guys behind him to put him that high.

If his bat develops where it's profiled to then he is a middle of the order guy. He doesn't have the speed to be a #2 type and I don't know if he will ever garner enough power to hit in the 4 hole. But he should have the bat to be a #3 hitter, if his bat doesn't max out then a #5 or #6 hitter.

My guess is at his best he's edgar martinez, consistant .300 hitter and consistant 30 HR guy

Since the podcast was not limited to insiders, I don't think there's any problem discussing the three-way deal discussed therein.

Frankly - I don't see how Milwaukee would give up Lawrie for Saunders plus the prospect. Lawrie's a much better prospect than anyone LAA can offer (excluding Trout, of course), and Saunders surely doesn't make up the gap. The Angels make a killing in that trade, in my opinion.

And it's sure interesting to hear Lawrie's name brought up, and the Mariners somehow appear on the periphery. Wouldn't be surprised in the least if Lawrie ends up in Seattle someday. Perhaps a deal of one Canadien for another?

it would be awesome if somehow we could sqeuzee into that deal i cant understand why millwaukee would want joe saunders so bad he is not that great would rather have vargas personally and not sure why the angels would want haren when they clearly lack a bat before pitching if somehow we could sneak into that deal and end up with haren i would be open to tradeanything not named pineada and ackley

I'm kinda with you, Adam. I just don't see that the Brewers get enough in trade. I think they have some rebuilding to do. I could see it if they got two good, young pitching prospects. But I'm not sure what Saunders will get them.

If Milwaukee is getting Trevor Reckling, Joe Saunders and a prospect for Lawrie and Gamel, they're doing fairly well for themselves.

It's not perfect, but it makes a lot of sense. I'd want a little bit better arm than Saunders, but he's not chopped liver and Lawrie isn't Jason Heyward.

The catch here isn't the Brewers or Halos side -- it's Arizona. They apparently indicated it would take Flores, Mejia, Thole, Martinez and Niese from NYM for Haren -- that's absurd.

Haren is on the M's wish list, but without Ackley or Pineda, or, say, Gutierrez, they probably can't get close.

Could you see the M's dealing Guti? I have had a feeling he may be dealt in the off season. I don't know why. He has not had a great year, so it seems we would be selling low.

It's possible, but not probable. It would be selling a bit low right now as you said, and unless it's a no-brainer the M's have to have a plan in place for CF without him or he's going nowhere.
