Prospect Insider - Light the Night
Light the Night

By Jason A. ChurchillBy 08-23-2009

Prospect Insider is finally doing something worthwhile, so please read on.

The Future Mrs. Churchill is very passionate about a lot of things, and one of them is her work and the patients she helps every single day working alongside the people of the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

So on September 26, Shannon, our 10-year-old son Ashton, and I will be doing the Light the Night walk for Leukemia and Lymphoma, and as a team we need to raise at least $5,000.

That's a lot of money and a lot of the walkers on the team have yet to raise a penny.

This is where the PI community can help, and I'm willing to compensate you for your generosity.

Each $5.00 donation = three months subscription to Prospect Insider's Premium Content, Videos and in-season monthly Prospect Reports.

Each $10.00 donation = six months subscription.

Each $25.00 donation = one year subscription, and access to all in-season and off-season prospect reports and premium content.

Every donation of $50.00 or more earns placement on the FOREVER list -- only three people are currently on said list. Pay no more monthly subscription fees, and never pay for any of the digital prospect handbooks or prospect reports ever again.

If you are already a subscriber, the aforementioned donation levels are tacked on to your current status.

Now for the most important part -- Here's what the money gets the Leukemia and Lymphoma Patients:

Every $25.00 provides patients and their loved ones with FREE booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.

Every $50.00 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained facilitator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.

Every $100.00 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.

Every $1000.00 makes possible one- on-one conversations with health care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health care team.

Our team is apparently a bunch of slackers -- they have only raised $155.00 with only four weeks remaining, and $105.00 of that was raised by Shannon alone in about a week. I'd like to raise as much of this myself as possible and greatly appreciate the support and participation of you all with this.

And, as always, your donation is tax deductible.

Thanks, lfglove! Please feel free to pass along the link. I'm really wanting to break records here.

This is the money I would've spent for this year's subscription to Baseball America.

I can barely type that with a straight face.

Jason, for the extra five dollars, I want you to twitter something about how awesome Matt Tuiasoso-effing-hard-to-spell-off-the-top-of-my-head is doing since the break in Tacoma. Also, throw in something about how cute he is, if you could.

Please remind us when it gets closer to the deadline as this month's finances are a little out of wack with my first trip out to Seattle from South Bend, IN.

This is a noble cause, Jason.
Money has gotten really tight at the Slack residence lately so I can't promise much at all but I'll see what I can do. Good luck reaching your target.

I am not currently sure about the ability to do a monetary donation (will know after the 1st), but if we are in the Seattle area how would we go about participating in the event?

It would mean even more to me, Slack, if you emailed the link out to everyone you know. Send it out via regular email, twitter, facebook, myspace... spread the word.

I get nothing from this except knowing the following two things:

1. I'm doing something to help
2. Those who I have attracted here as an audience are a damned good bunch of people and I couldn't be more fortunate.

This is becoming a mission of mine, so get used to this, guys. And the more you help by passing that link on or making a donation of any kind, the less times I'll have to re-post this and will get on to baseball things.

But this is just so more important than anything baseball related and it's time I step up and take part.

Jason,

This is a great cause and I just donated $50 to get on the forever list. I'm sorry it couldn't be more, but I hope this helps you reach your goal!

Being a recent survivor of Leukemia, I can tell you first hand how important this organization is. Fortunately for me, I had extemely good health insurance. But, others are less fortunate, and the LLS is there for them.

I'm more than glad to help with this cause. I lost my sister to Leukemia, several years ago. What they can do now is vastly different than the treatment options available when she was diagnosed.

This is a good cause, I urge everyone to support it, even if it's only a few dollars. You can add me to the FOREVER list, because it's a cause I will forever support.

Nothing is better for the human soul, than to help those in need. The hand you extend today, may be one you're reaching for one day. I never thought I would be the one reaching, but I'm glad there were hands there for me, when I did.

I can tell you firsthand, the people at SCCA and The Fred Hutchinson Research Center are amongst the best in the world. We benefit, because many of those doctors stay in the area. I'm still here because of their efforts.

Sorry to change the subject, but is there any reason to buy tickets in advance for either Saturday's Everett game or the Monday M's game? I'm not looking for expensive seats right behind the dish, so I should be fine right?

23.  By: Jason A. Churchill on 08-25-2009 09:39:20
No on Everett, Rey. Sorry I didn't get back to you in time for Monday's M's game.

Just get there an hour before game time and you'll have the pick of the lot.

24.  By: FelixElRey on 08-25-2009 10:12:39
Thanks. It's actually next Monday's game against the Angels.

Good luck on this cause, I just made my donation. Hope you reach your goal.

Jason,

I just read Keith's top 15 from the Cape Cod league this year. I've noticed Zach Cox was his number 1 player from the Cape this year. I've known about Zach and followed him a little last year at Arkansas. I had the feeling he would progress into a stud 3b, I just didn't think he would put it all together this fast.

My question is. What range do you see him being drafted? He seems like the perfect pick for the M's in next years draft. A patient hitter, with some pop, high average, and a short approach to the ball. A slick fielder with a plus arm. And a baseball rat, that is obsessed with baseball. Sign Me Up! This kid seems like the type of player JZ would draft and with Beltre going and no really immediate player for the 3b role. I think they should try and snag this guy if he continues his stellar play over the spring.

Since he will only be a Sophmore but is eligible for the draft next year he has leverage and could use that leverage to demand a higher bonus, which could make him slide. Could you see him being in the 10-15 range where, hopefully, the M's will pick?

I hope so. Right now he is on top of my draft list
