The Mariner middle infield is in a fairly precarious state right now. Jack Wilson is locked up for two awesome defensive, painful offensive seasons. Jose Lopez is going to be mentioned in trade rumors til he figures out that the word walk isn't just something you do on the beach, and there's no gimme middle infield prospect just waiting for one of the two to move.
Rutledge is a six foot, 185 pound junior coming off a solid sophomore season and is currently posting a nice .360/.400/.560 line. Even better than the offensive numbers, Rutledge shows a good glove, and most scouts think he can stick at SS.
With the current middle-infield situation, Rutledge is a name that could make sense in June, and he could fall into the range where Seattle has selections.
