2017 Modesto Nuts Opening Day Roster

Rotation

Nick Neidert, RHP
Pablo Lopez, RHP
Anthony Misiewicz, LHP
Reggie McClain, RHP
Nathan Bannister, RHP

This is a very talented rotation with Neidert, 20, and Lopez , 21, both legitimate prospects, and Misiewicz , 22, a relief prospect I like.

Bullpen

Joe Pistorese, LHP
Art Warren, RHP
Joey Strain, RHP
Matthew Festa, RHP
Spencer Herrmann, LHP
Lukas Schiraldi, RHP
Rohn Pierce, RHP
Matt Walker, RHP

Pistorese can be nasty from the left side and has an attack for right-handed batters. Strain, Warren, Pierce and Festa have stuff-command combos that should play well in the California League.

Walker has a chance to close in the minors and develop into a seventh-inning reliever in the majors. Schiraldi could explode in this role, perhaps adding velocity and moving quickly to Double-A.

Catchers

Daniel Torres, R/R
Arturo Nieto, R/R

Both are catch-and-throw types, but Torres is a bit undersized. Nieto brings some offense to the table, too. Both are old for the league (25, 24), which is preferred with prospects on the mound.

Infielders

Jordan Cowan, L/R
Joey Curletta, R/R
Gianfranco Wawoe, S/R
Donnie Walton, S/R
Logan Taylor, R/R
Chris Mariscal, R/R

No top 25 prospects here but Cowan will play sound baseball and Wawoe and Taylor will hit. Mariscal is a grinder, too. Curletta hit 17 homers last season.

Outfielders

Willie Argo, R/R
Braden Bishop, R/R
Eric Filia, L/R
Ricky Eusebio, R/R

Bishop is the biggest name here; he can run and defend but the jury is still out on the hit tool. Filia can and will hit, though at 24 he’s old for the league, as he was in Everett a year ago when he torched the Northwest League to the tune of a .360/.451/.494 triple-slash with 40 walks and 19 strikeouts.
