MLB players of the month — September

To coincide with our Seattle Mariners of the month feature, Prospect Insider will also be highlighting a couple of top performers from around the major leagues on a monthly basis as well. In August it was utility star Josh Harrison and starter Madison Bumgarner that took home the honors. Logan Morrison and Felix Hernandez took the awards for September M’s of the month, and as a reminder, Mariners players will not be included in these posts. Let’s take a look at who were the best of the best in August. Miguel Cabrera, 1B, DET — 110 PA, .379/.409/.709, 214…

Nook Nacks — May 2

I’m writing this intro on Thursday, May 1, at about 2:00 in the afternoon. I just went outside to get a cookie. 2014 Milestone Watch: Hitters

There’s long been a train of thought that if a player were to reach a certain statistical plateau they’d have their spot reserved in Cooperstown, the baseball Hall of Fame. The exceptions to the ‘rule’ are players who have found themselves amidst the controversy surrounding the period in…

Gawlowski: Trout clear MVP favorite

This may be the year Mike Trout finally wins an MVP, but while he’s the clear favorite there is a ton of competition, starting with two-time defending MVP Miguel Cabrera. Surprisingly, there may not be one single catcher or shortstop in the Top 10, at least as it’s viewed a week and a half before the regular seasons begins. Don’t be shocked if Toronto’s Jose Reyes changes that, but he’ll have to stay healthy first and the Blue Jays may have to contend into September. The top catcher in the…

Top 2014 AL MVP Candidates

The American League Most Valuable Player has been the subject of debate the past two years. Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout clearly has been the game’s best player each season, but Miguel Cabrera‘s triple crown and terrific follow-up performance on a playoff team won over the voters — twice. In assessing the top candidates for the award this season, I will ignore the voter aspect, since I cannot read the minds of the BBWAA, nor do I recognize them, as a group, as any kind of authority on who…
