Draft Watch: Regionals Weekend

Corvallis: Oregon State, UNLV, UC Irvine, North Dakota State The top-ranked Beavers were rewarded with a pretty soft field of competition, and getting to the Super Regionals should be a cakewalk for them. Michael Conforto is the clear top prospect in this pool, and arguably the best pure hitter in all of college baseball, although he cooled off a bit at the end of the season. If UNLV’s Eric Fedde had not gone down with Tommy John this would have been a lot more interesting matchup, but the Fedde-less Rebels…

Draft Watch: Crunch Time

It is crunch time for teams as the draft is just over a month away. The Houston Astros are hard at work and according to the Houston Chronicle have apparently narrowed their list for pick No. 1-1 down to just seven names: Carlos Rodon, Aaron Nola, Jeff Hoffman, Trea Turner, Bradley Zimmer, Brady Aiken, Tyler Kolek, and Alex Jackson. Draft Watch: Rodon Dazzles, Bukauskas turns heads

After an enigmatic spring in which Carlos Rodon has seen his ups and downs, the NC State southpaw bounced back in a big way last Friday. After seeing a dip in his velocity most of this Spring, Rodon has been sitting in the 89-92 MPH range mostly, but he worked between 93-96 in his last start against Duke,…

Draft Watch: Arms Race Week 6

It has been all about pitching this spring at both the college and prep levels. The BBCOR bats are certainly having ramifications on the game, as offense among the amateur ranks is at an all-time low. There are two storylines in particular to keep an eye on this weekend; first the arms race between left-handers battling for spots on team’s draft boards, and also the prep pitchers who are lighting up radar guns in the early goings. TCU Southpaw Brandon Finnegan has been piling up strikeouts at a ridiculous rate…
