2012 deadline deals in retrospect

Last June, I wrote a piece reflecting on several non-waiver deadline deals made in July 2011. My rationale for looking back so far was simple. Most of these trades involve prospects who are years away from reaching the majors — assuming they ever do. Early trade talk

Last week, Jim Bowden of ESPN and the MLB Radio Network published a list of the 30 best players who could be on the move prior to the August 1 non-waiver trading deadline and where he thinks those players fit best. For some, it’s a tad early to be discussing deals when the deadline is still two months away. Top 2014 Cy Young Candidates

The 2013 Cy Young Awards went to Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw and Detroit Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer. It was Kershaw’s second and while it’s Scherzer’s first, the Tigers are certainly not unfamiliar with Cy Young winners since their ace Justin Verlander is, well, Justin Verlander, and he’s a contender every year — and the 2011 winner.
