Jason may be taking a break from Prospect Insider — but he’s still got his gig at the P-I. This week’s Farm Report discusses one of my two favorite prospects in the Mariners’ system: Adam Moore.
Here’s some food for thought — where does Adam rank amongst the M’s current catching prospects, especially now with Clement in the bigs and Johnson only finding hits when I’m shooting photos in Cheney. Here’s Jason’s take on this in the Farm Report:
Rare in baseball is a catcher with an above-average bat. Moore’s abilities in the batter’s box could thrust him past Clement and Johnson on the Mariners depth chart, perhaps pushing both to other positions.
As much as I’m a fan of upper-tier prospects like Clement, Triunfel, Aumont, etc., I’ve always been a bigger fan of the under-the-radar prospects that don’t get a lot of press. First it was George Sherrill, and recently it’s been Austin Bibens-Dirkx and Adam Moore. I don’t think Adam’s going to fly under the radar much longer.
Well, dang — I’ve rambled on long enough. You don’t come here to listen to me — go read Jason’s Farm Report on Adam Moore in the P-I.

Send Kudos to Prospect Insider for this Report!

I agree with you Paul about finding that hidden gem. From day one, I hoped Moore would become that gem. Many overlook that he was with Nebraska, but suffered a knee injury that led to his transfer to Arlington. Imagine what the Cornhuskers would have had with both Moore and Alex Gordon in their line up if they managed to play together.
It’s nice to have been a fan from day one, and see something positive come out of it.
I apologize for immediately ruining the post for untouted prospects, but what’s the deal with triunfel? I noticed he hasn’t been in the lineup lately.
Sorry, back to the topic…what positions is Rob Johnson capable of moving to? 1B? corner outfield as well hopefully?
Jeez, ek — you’re right! Gordon + Moore would’ve been a nice combo for Nebraska.
On Triunfel — Churchill made a call and got the following info: “Early word is a minor injury and he’s 50-50 to go on the DL”
On Robby — he’s a catcher only. Jason can give you more details when he returns, but Robby’s time in LF was really only to keep getting him needed at-bats when Clement was behind the dish. Now that Jeff’s in the bigs, Robby’s going to be the full-time catcher, and might only get a few days off as DH in order to keep working on his hitting.
It’s his hitting that will dictate whether or not he’s a useful backup catcher in the bigs, and it isn’t good enough for a corner fielding position. Clearly Moore’s ahead of him on the prospect list — his defense, from what I’ve heard, is probably close to Robby’s, but his bat is much better.
I love Rob Johnson, but his bat really needs to improve before he even gets a shot as a backup catcher in the bigs. I brought him a single on Opening Day, and a double on May 1st. I’m hoping to make another game this homestand, and I’ve got a triple in there for Robby. He’s got the speed to do it — he’s no rabbit, but he’s not a slouch either.
Okay,
I am doing the math, and I got nothing. I am terrified right now that Triu is in Peoria because he is about to be traded. Tell me my math is bad! I said, Tell me my math is bad! Please, please, please, please, please don’t let this happen now. I can’t take it. I can’t stop loving the M’s but if they keep sticking a hot needle in my eye ball, eventually I won’t be able to love them any more.
Yeah the math in my head is adding up to a Triunfel for a pre-600 career Homerun Griffey.
Unless someone can come up with a more logical explanation.
The math says he has been doing something wrong in the clubhouse are off the field is what my math says.
6 - Why would they send him to Arizona then? It doesn’t make sense to me for the organization to send a player to Arizona if off-field or clubhouse issues have occurred.
He hasn’t been in a game since May 10, which was 2 days before reports surfaced of Duane Schafer scouting Griffey in New York. If he wasn’t hurt why was he pulled and sent to Arizona, I mean it’s not like he was struggling that bad.
Well, there’s not much else other than to hope it’s not a trade.
I’m a die hard mariners fan, and they will always be the only team i root for….
but if Bavasi trades away Tri for Griffey, I’m going to take a break from baseball for a good year or two. and i wont be attending a Mariners game for the rest of this decade.
Looks like Jason updated his alert. I’m glad to see that we aren’t trading him for Junior; I was getting a little bit worried.
I’m guessing it is a disciplinary action.
Ok - I’ve calmed down and rationalized it. It’s seriously impossible that we’re trading away Tri for Griffey. The Reds would be happy just to get rid of Griffey’s contract for nothing at this point.
Only a fan of a team run by Bavasi would psych himself out like that. I apologize for that brief lapse of paranoia…
In trouble? He was raking too, that sucks. Only thing is idk why they’d send him to Peoria if he was in trouble.
I’d say cujo’s math adds up pretty well. And Yohn’s, too.
If he isnt going to play, they need to fill that roster spot…
If he isn’t on the roster, he cant be there.
Everyone can take a deep breath. He is, after all, still a teenager. Remember back to when we were teenagers and how, well, disciplined we were.
Well, if it’s not an injury or him being traded, what might it be? Hopefully not another M’s minor leaguer on Steroids. That would really suck…
under the radar…

according to the wisconsin website data..
he’s 6′5″ and 180 lbs.
that’s like walking string bean…

Again, take a deep breath and remember how old he is. It’s not that big of a deal. I was going to make a PE joke, but decided against it because everyone’s so jumpy on this. He’ll be fine.

Bob Engle grabs another future star? Where’s my “Surprised Face”???
Jonathan did a quick writeup on him back in the end of April:
at minorleagueball.com someone has just put up pics from a recent High Desert game against Bakersfield with some good picks of Halman, Phillips, Peguero etc, for those interested. It is in the Fanposts section on the right
Good news to hear!
How bad could it be to be sent to Peoria? Why not just the simple benching for a few games?
Says suspended on Triunfel’s status on the Mavs roster.
Whatever he did was bad.
Let me clear this up a little further…
Triunfel’s mouth has landed him in trouble for the second time this season, and the Mariners aren’t going to allow a bad attitude to remain.
He’ll either shape up, mature a bit and continue developing, or he’ll ruin his entire career because he’s a stupid kid.
But I’m not going to put too much weight on this. From what I have been told, his suspension/demotion isn’t going to last very long, but the club couldn’t do nothing.
One of the things these kids have to do along with learning the game of baseball, which is tough enough by itself, particularly for a Latin kid at 18, is grow up.
If i remember correctly they went thru this same thing with Balentine and he turned out pretty good.I think Wlad was suspended back to back years for the same stuff do you remember this jason?
I don’t remember it specifically, but it’s not a huge issue at this point.
As long it stops happening.
